The Directors

IRST was founded in 1991 by Derek Keegan and Malcom Hunt, to provide specialist access and rescue equipment and training to industry and the emergency services.

Derek Keegan

Derek Keegan Derek has an extensive background in the field of rescue, working initially with the Royal Air Force helicopter and mountain Rescue Service. He is a founder member of the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and team leader for many years. He is a past Chairman of the Irish Mountain Rescue Association, and has recently been awarded a distinguished service membership for 40 years service to mountain rescue. Derek has also been closely associated with some of the most innovative developments in rope rescue equipment and techniques. He is a registered MillerTroll Training instructor.

Malcolm Hunt

Malcolm Hunt Malcolm’s background was in the Adventure Sports Equipment industry, and in the Irish Mountain Rescue Service.He has represented the National Standards Authority for Ireland, on a working group of CEN (European Standards committee), dealing with standards for safety & rescue equipment. He is a registered MillerTroll Training instructor.
